Lessons Policy & Expectations
Enrollment, participation in lessons, or payment indicates agreement with the policies below.
Contacting the School
For scheduling, questions, learning support between lessons, and changes, contact the school through the MYG Student Community (currently hosted on Skool) whenever possible. Communication is tied to school systems, not individual instructors.
- Tier 1 (Authoritative): MYG Student Community (currently hosted on Skool). Required for active enrollment. Monitored and logged.
- Tier 2 (Fallback): Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, Text message, Email: enrollment@masteryourguitar.net. Used only when the MYG Student Community is unavailable, a time-sensitive issue prevents use, or an instructor directs you to use fallback.
- Tier 3 (Non-authoritative): Direct instructor texting, personal social media accounts, verbal-only messages. Not binding for scheduling or policy enforcement and may not be seen or logged.
Important: Messages sent outside the MYG Student Community may not be logged or acted on. If a message is not posted in the MYG Student Community, it is not considered official notice.
1. Lesson Model & Instructional Scope
MYG provides structured guitar instruction focused on long-term development, consistency, and measurable improvement.
Lessons may be offered:
- One-on-one private instruction
- In your home, office, or another agreed-upon location
- In a studio or group setting when available
Your lesson format is determined by program level, scheduling availability, and enrollment type.
2. Trial Lesson & Enrollment Process
Every new enrollment begins with a complimentary trial lesson.
To ensure the best possible experience:
- A brief phone or video call is required prior to your trial lesson
- Your trial lesson is confirmed once that call is completed
- If contact is not made prior to your trial lesson, your trial lesson may be rescheduled
Your trial lesson allows you and your instructor to confirm goals, learning style, and overall fit.
Enrollment is offered based on commitment, scheduling availability, and program alignment.
3. Tuition & Billing Structure
MYG operates on a monthly tuition model, rather than per-lesson billing.
Monthly tuition:
- Reserves a consistent weekly lesson time
- Includes lesson preparation, scheduling, and instructional support
- Provides progress tracking and learning materials
Tuition is billed automatically each month on the same day-of-month as your first payment (including 5-week months), using the card used for your first payment. If you need to change the card on file, contact the school and support will help you update it.
Tuition is charged at the beginning of each billing cycle and remains consistent regardless of holidays, absences, or the number of weeks in a given month.
Tuition is non-refundable.
Startup Fee (Programs That Require It)
Some programs may require a one-time startup fee (registration, materials, method books, tuners, or an enrollment kit). If a startup fee applies to your program, the fee is communicated before enrollment is finalized.
Startup fees are separate from monthly tuition.
4. Technology & Online Learning Tools
MYG may use technology to enhance your learning during lessons and between lessons. This may include Soundslice, YouTube, and Android or iOS apps.
MYG Student Community (authoritative hub): The MYG Student Community is the official student communication and learning hub for Master Your Guitar (currently hosted on Skool). It is the system of record for announcements, between-lesson support, make-up coordination, feedback, shared resources, and instructions. Platform hosting may change over time; regardless of platform, the MYG Student Community remains authoritative.
- Learning platform: MYG Student Community (currently hosted on Skool)
- Content tools: Soundslice, YouTube, Android or iOS apps (used within learning workflows)
- Fallback communication channels: Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, Text message, Email: enrollment@masteryourguitar.net (only when the MYG Student Community is unavailable)
Email Deliverability: To ensure you receive scheduling, reminders, lesson links, and policy updates, add these addresses to your safe sender list (whitelist):
- marcus@masteryourguitar.net
- enrollment@masteryourguitar.net
If an expected email does not arrive, check spam/junk, then move the email to your inbox to improve future delivery.
5. Teacher Absence
If your instructor is unable to teach during your reserved lesson time, your instructor will record a video lesson and send lesson content for you to complete.
And as part of your plan, more learning options are available for you that week:
- Work through the lesson materials provided in your student Dropbox folder (no Dropbox account required).
- Work on any assigned material in Soundslice and continue building momentum.
- Record yourself playing anything from your Dropbox materials or Soundslice (See Section 4), then send a Direct Message in the MYG Student Community (currently hosted on Skool) to your instructor with a video and any questions for feedback and next steps.
- If the MYG Student Community is unavailable, your instructor may direct you to use a fallback channel (Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, Text message, or Email: enrollment@masteryourguitar.net) for time-sensitive issues only.
6. Attendance, Missed Lessons & Make-Up Credits
Attend your lesson each week on the day and time agreed upon with your instructor. Your weekly time is reserved exclusively for you (or for your group enrollment).
If you provide 24 hours of notice:
- You receive a make-up credit.
- Record yourself playing anything from your Dropbox materials or Soundslice (See Section 4), then send a Direct Message in the MYG Student Community (currently hosted on Skool) to your instructor with a video and any questions for feedback and next steps.
- Limit: Use up to 2 make-up credits per semester/term.
- Expiration: Your make-up credits expire at the end of the current term/semester.
For Group Lessons: If you provide the required 24 hours of notice for an absence, you receive a make-up credit. Use your make-up credit to join a Make-Up session at pre-designated times during the week (see the MYG Student Community for access).
If you do not provide 24 hours of notice:
Master Your Guitar Music Academy is under no obligation to reschedule a lesson missed for personal reasons, regardless of circumstances. Refunds are not given for missed lessons.
- Work through the lesson materials provided in your student Dropbox folder (no Dropbox account required).
- Work on any assigned material in Soundslice and continue building momentum.
- Record yourself playing anything from your Dropbox materials or Soundslice (See Section 4), then post your video and questions in the MYG Student Community (currently hosted on Skool) for feedback and next steps.
To keep scheduling fair and predictable, exceptions cannot be guaranteed.
7. Lesson Reminders
Lesson reminders may be sent as a courtesy (text and/or email), but attendance remains your responsibility.
A missed reminder does not change the missed-lesson policy or create an automatic make-up lesson.
8. Rescheduling Guidelines
Rescheduling is offered as a courtesy when possible.
Because consistency is essential to progress:
- Rescheduled lessons are subject to instructor availability
- Repeated cancellations or rescheduling may result in a change to your lesson time or enrollment status
These guidelines help keep scheduling reliable.
9. Holidays & Planned Time Off
- Major holidays and planned instructor absences are communicated in advance
- Monthly tuition already accounts for occasional schedule variations
- Additional make-up lessons are not guaranteed unless scheduled in advance
10. Practice & Your Responsibility
Progress is the result of instruction and consistent practice between lessons.
To stay on track:
- Follow your assigned practice plan
- Communicate challenges early
- Arrive prepared and on time
Your results vary based on practice consistency. Lack of progress due to limited practice does not create grounds for refunds or schedule changes.
11. Communication
The MYG Student Community is the official student communication and learning hub for Master Your Guitar (currently hosted on Skool). It is the authoritative system of record for communication, announcements, between-lesson learning, make-up coordination, shared resources, and asynchronous feedback.
Approved channel hierarchy:
- Tier 1 (Authoritative): MYG Student Community (currently hosted on Skool)
- Tier 2 (Fallback): Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, Text message, Email: enrollment@masteryourguitar.net (only when the MYG Student Community is unavailable, time-sensitive, or directed by an instructor)
- Tier 3 (Non-authoritative): Direct instructor texting, personal social media, verbal-only messages (not binding)
Student responsibility: Maintain active access to the MYG Student Community and check it regularly for updates. Missed information due to non-use is not grounds for exceptions.
12. Pausing or Concluding Lessons
If you need to pause or conclude lessons:
- Provide a minimum of 14 days’ written notice
Tuition already paid is non-refundable, but tuition may be applied during your notice period.
13. Learning Environment & Professional Conduct
For in-home or off-site lessons, provide:
- A safe, quiet environment with minimal distractions
- Reasonable conditions for instruction
MYG reserves the right to discontinue a lesson if conditions prevent effective instruction or if conduct is inappropriate.
14. Program Expansion & Future Offerings
As MYG grows to include studio-based instruction, group classes, or additional instructors, these policies continue to apply unless updated in writing.
15. Instruments & Equipment
You are responsible for:
- Maintaining your instrument in playable condition
- Bringing required materials to each lesson
MYG is not responsible for damage to personal equipment unless caused by instructor negligence.
16. Unforeseen Circumstances
MYG is not liable for disruptions caused by circumstances beyond reasonable control, including weather, illness, or emergencies. Reasonable efforts will be made to communicate and reschedule when possible.
17. Enrollment Continuity
MYG reserves the right to discontinue instruction if policies are not observed, tuition is not maintained, or the program is no longer an appropriate fit.
18. Policy Updates
Policies may be updated as the academy grows. Significant changes will be communicated, and continued enrollment constitutes acceptance of updated terms.
